There are many reasons why an Echelon rowing machine resistance may not be working. Common issues include power supply problems, the controller resistance batteries need to be replaced, or the controller being broken itself.

The following troubleshooting guides will help you identify and fix your Echelon rower resistance problem.

1. Check the power source

If your Echelon rowing machine resistance stops working, the first thing to do is to check the machine’s power source.

The power source is the most likely reason for the resistance to stop working. It is what provides power to the resistance motor to respond and operate. If it isn’t working, the resistance won’t work either.

Check that the rower is plugged in properly and that there are no loose wires or other objects in contact with the power cord.

Also be certain you are using the appropriate voltage your Echelon rowing machine requires. If the cord has any fraying or damage, then you will need to replace it with a new one.

2. Replace the controller battery

The Echelon user’s manual says that replacing the batteries usually fixes a nonoperational controller.

An Echelon rowing machine requires a CR2032 battery.

Start off Echelon rowing machine battery replacement by flipping the handlebars over, then unscrew and remove the casing on the back of the handlebars.

Now that you have access to the old battery, remove it from the battery compartment and replace it with a new CR2032 battery. Make sure the plus sign is facing upwards.

Reattach the casing back and check if the resistance works now.

3. Replace the resistance controller

If resistance is still not working after replacing the battery in the controller, then the resistance controller is most likely damaged and needs to be replaced.

But before you replace the new resistance controller, follow the steps below to pair the new controller to Echelon rower.

First turn the rower on, then remove the battery from the old Resistance Controller to turn it off. Put the battery in the new resistance controller.

To put the controller in pairing mode, hold the up and down buttons on the new controller for 30 seconds until a blue light flashes on the inside of the controller.

Using only the power switch, turn off Echelon for at least 3 seconds before turning it back on

Try not to prolong the power cycling process, as the controller will go out of pairing mode after a certain period of time passes, the pairing process won’t proceed as a result.

Finally after the rower turns back on, it will pair with the new resistance controller automatically.
