The stride length is basically the distance between your feet when you are on an elliptical machine.

There is no gold standard for stride length on ellipticals, but 20 inches is typically the stride length on commercial ellipticals that you may be used to using at the gym.

It’s also important to find the one that feels most natural to you.

A 20-inch stride length is designed to fit users of most heights (5’3″ – 6′) relatively comfortably. But a few inches more or less will also work for most people.

A Proform elliptical stride length should be long enough so that your knees don’t come up too high, but not so long that it feels like you’re running in place.

Maintaining proper posture is also essential in an elliptical workout to avoid injuries. An appropriate stride length should allow you to maintain the proper posture and reap the most benefits out of your workout.

Manual Proform versions of stride adjustment require turning a knob to adjust, while some others also require an arm to assist in the process.

To adjust the stride length on the manual versions, first loosen the adjustment knob.

Next, pull the adjustment knob outward until the adjustment bracket will move freely.

Slide the adjustment bracket upward or downward until the adjustment knob is aligned with one of the holes in the crank arm, and gently release the knob to engage the adjustment pin in the hole.

Rock the adjustment arm upward and downward slightly to make sure that the adjustment pin is engaged in one of the holes in the crank arm.

To ensure proper rotation, you need to make sure that both sides rotate to the same distance.

Then, tighten the adjustment knob.

Make sure that both sides of the elliptical are adjusted to the same stride length.
