What Causes Proform Treadmill To Need a Reset?

Proform makes many great fitness machines, including treadmills, exercise bikes, ellipticals and rowing machines.

There are a number of instances where you may need to reset your Proform treadmill.

The most common one is when there is an error message displayed on the console. However, it’s worth unplugging the treadmill for 30 minutes and seeing if that works. If that doesn’t work, then performing a reset is the best choice to make.

Next, to increase the difficulty of your workout you can increase the incline ramp, sometimes this functionality might stop working properly. In this instance the treadmill will require a reset to get things back together.

You also would consider resetting your treadmill after you have purchased your machine second hand or about to sell it and want to delete all the treadmill workout history and revert it to its original factory settings.

A Proform treadmill reset process can take anywhere from 5 minutes up to an hour to complete depending on the model of the machine and how many programs you have saved. 

How To Reset Proform Treadmill? Step-By-Step Guide

There are two different methods you can use to reset a Proform treadmill. The simplest and easiest approach involves using the reset button.

However, if your treadmill doesn’t have a rest button or you have a hard time finding its location, then you will have to follow the other method. 

Method 1: Using the reset button

  1. Turn off the power on your treadmill by flipping the power switch off. You can locate it on the treadmill frame near the power cord. If you can’t locate it on your machine, check the manufacturer’s manual.
  2. Next, you need to locate the small reset opening. You can either find the pinhole on the back of the console or one side of your treadmill. If you have a hard time locating it, consult your owner’s manual.
  3. After you insert the safety key into place, insert a paper clip into the pinhole and press it down. As you’re doing this, have the other person flip the power back on.
  4. You can remove the paper clip after the screen powers on.
  5. On the screen, the iFit logo will appear, and the following text ‘system recovery: please wait..’. will appear highlighted in blue. If you don’t see this blue text, then redo the reset.
  6. If the blue text stays for more than 30 minutes, then you need to redo the reset procedure as well.

Method 2: Without using the reset button

This method comes in handy if your Proform treadmill doesn’t have a reset button, or you just couldn’t locate it. 

First, turn on your Proform treadmill, and do not stand on the walking belt while performing this procedure.

Press and hold the stop and speed increase buttons at the same time. While still holding the buttons, insert the safety key into place, then release the buttons.

By following these steps, you now reset the console settings of your Proform treadmill. 

If somehow the process failed, remove the safety and repeat the process over again.

How To Reset Incline On Proform Treadmill?

Before we jump into how to reset Proform treadmill incline system, it is important to note that these instructions don’t apply to all Proform models of treadmills. 

Many recent models, including the models with touchscreen consoles, do not have the capability for the user to calibrate the incline system.

You can also refer to your owner manual to get a clear idea whether your model incline system can be reset or not. 

To calibrate Proform treadmill incline system, plug in your treadmill, and do not stand on the walking belt while performing this procedure.

Press and hold the stop and speed increase buttons at the same time. While still holding the buttons, insert the safety key into place, then release the buttons.

Press the Stop button once. Next press the incline (+) button, this will make the incline motor automatically go all the way to the maximum incline and come all the way down to the minimum incline level. 

Remove the safety key from the console if for any reason you want to exit the calibration mode.

How To Reset iFiT On Proform Treadmill?

All iFit-enabled Proform treadmills are filled with complex software programs and apps. If your built-in console or the iFiT app has stopped responding, a factory reset might be your solution

A factory reset, however, only works on the latest consoles. To see if your Proform machine is compatible with this process, look at your settings, and verify your firmware version. Versions available for factory reset begin with 7.1. 

You can also see if your machine is compatible by looking at your console. If your machine has a USB or an HDMI port, it is not compatible with this process.

First you need to locate the small reset opening. You can either find the pinhole on the back of the console or one side of your treadmill. If you have a hard time locating it, consult your owner’s manual.

You would need two people to do this process.

Once you find the pinhole, turn off Proform treadmill

Next, insert a paperclip into the reset opening button and push it until you hear it click. 

While still holding the paper clip, have the other person flip the on/off switch to power on the treadmill. Remove the paper clip after the display lights up.

Now your Proform treadmill will initiate the reset.

Once the screen lights up, the iFit logo will appear, and the following text ‘system recovery: please wait..’. will appear highlighted in blue. If this phrase does not appear, you need to repeat the steps above.

Also, if the blue text continues to appear for more than 30 minutes, you need to repeat the reset process as well.
