Without further ado, let’s get right into it!

Why Is My Weslo Tread Not Working?

There are multiple reasons for why a Weslo Treadmill won’t turn on and stop unexpectedly.

The problem might be something you can fix yourself, ranging from simple possibilities such as power supply problems, the installation does not meet Weslo electrical power requirements, or the safety key is not connected properly. To more complex possibilities, such as motor controller problems.

The following troubleshooting guides will help you identify and fix your Weslo treadmill problem.

Weslo Treadmill Won’t Turn On – Troubleshooting Guides

1. Check the outlet

Always check if your power cable is connected properly to the outlet and your Weslo.

A Weslo treadmill won’t turn on if there is a loose connection. The loose connection usually occurs if the Weslo power cable is not properly plugged into an electric outlet or the power cable is not properly connected to the power brick.

Make sure the electrical outlet has power by plugging a small appliance into it to see if it works.

If the appliance doesn’t power, reset the house circuit breaker to restore power to the outlet.

If the Tread is still not receiving power, plug the treadmill to another outlet. Make sure not to use a power strip, power adaptor, or an extension cord.

Next, make sure that your Weslo tread is plugged into an outlet that meets its power requirements.

The power requirements are: 120V, 60Hz, 15A dedicated circuit that is used for a single appliance.

Also, ensure that the Tread is not plugged into a GFCI outlet.

2. Check the power cord

If the electrical outlet works fine and the outlet meets the power requirements of your Weslo tread, unplug the machine and check the power cord for damage.

Make sure the cord is connected properly to both the electrical outlet and the Tread’s deck.

Next, check all wires between the power cord connection and the motor control board. Reconnect any loose wires and repair any broken ones.

If the cord has been damaged then you may need to replace it with a new one.

3. Check the power switch

Some models of Weslo treadmills have a power button on the side. Look to see if yours has this, and if it does, then you need to check if the power switch was tripped.

If so, Weslo advises to wait five minutes and then press the switch back to the Reset position.

Next, through the use of a multimeter, check the continuity of the power switch.

Replace the power switch if the meter measures no continuity through the power switch with the power switch turned on.

Turn on your Weslo treadmill and check if it starts. If the tread still doesn’t run, move to the next troubleshooting step.

4. Check the safety key connection

If your Weslo treadmill will not turn on, make sure the safety key is fully inserted in the console. The treadmill won’t run if the safety key isn’t in the console.

Make sure that your safety key is properly connected while the Tread is in use.

The area surrounding the safety key and safety key opening should be kept dry and free from moisture.

Moreover, if the safety key, safety key opening, or surrounding area is exposed to any sort of liquid, it’s quite crucial to dry these areas immediately.

5. Check the motor board

If the console lights up, but the Weslo won’t power on, then you need to inspect the motor controller board. Loose wires under the motor hood or in the console can also cause your treadmill not to start.

Therefore, you need to remove the screws and lift off the motor hood. Look around for any obvious damage, burns, loose or broken wires.

Next, use a multimeter to see if you are getting the correct voltage coming from the console to the motor control board.

If you get 120VAC from the console and from the board, the board is working fine.

However, if you have voltage from the console but not from the board, then you have an issue with the controller board.

Check all wires between the power cord connection and the motor control board. Reconnect any loose wires and repair any broken wires.

If wiring that connects power to the motor control board is okay, check the wiring between the motor control board and the console display. Replace any loose wires and repair any broken wires.

If the wires between the control board and the display are okay, then you either have a bad motor control board or a failed console display that is preventing your treadmill from powering up.

6. Check the console

Start off by unplugging your machine.

Next, remove the console and check to see if the console wire has a good connection with the console.

With the console wire now accessible, check this wire connections and pins.

These pins sit inside the plastic casing that connects the wire to the console. You need to make sure none of the pins have been broken or bent.

If a bent pin is found, carefully bend it back into place.

Identify and check any pinch points the wire may have. Pinch points are any place the wire moves between two parts.

If this wire is damaged anywhere, you may want to replace it.

If no damage was found, remove the console mast and check to see if the console upper cable and console lower is connected well.

If everything seems fine, reconnect the main wire and plug your machine back in.

Final Tip

If none of the above fixes work, then you need to contact the Support Team of your treadmill. They will help you diagnose the problem and offer solutions.

If your treadmill is still under warranty, the manufacturer may cover the cost to repair your machine.

However, if you attempt to fix the tread yourself while it is under warranty, then you may void the warranty.

In this case, only perform the troubleshooting tips recommended by your manufacturer.

Conclusion

If your Weslo tread won’t turn on, there are a few things you can do to fix it.

First of all, make sure that the machine is properly plugged into a power source that meets Weslo electrical power requirements.

Check the power cord to see if it is connected properly to both the electrical outlet and the Tread’s deck.

Also ensure the safety key is connected properly while the Tread is in use.

You may need to replace the motor controller board if it gets enough power but doesn’t work appropriately.
